Workshops

Not actually a commission, this workshop was built for a miniatures club competition.  It represents a small one-man hovercraft (ground-effect machine) being built in a garage.  This was in fact Jeremy Collins' own full-size hovercraft, built with a colleague in the late 1960's when amateur hovercraft were particularly popular in Great Britain.  The full-size was powered by a pair of redundant motorcycle engines and was of  welded steel-tube construction.  The model is built to a scale of 1/12.  The hovercraft is made from soldered brass tube, with a short piece of plumbing wastepipe for the fan ducting with most of the other materials coming from the scrapbox.

The model took only a few days to construct and, yes, it did win the competition!
