Dover Old Town Court

A replica of the former Court Room at Dover Old Town Jail.  Built to a scale of 1/12 and measuring approximately 20" (50 cm) square, this was commissioned for a customer who wanted to recreate a particular trial scene.

The Old Town Jail is now a museum in the town of Dover, Kent and contains both the Court Room and the old jail below it.  It was not possible to measure the Court Room, so all design was carried out using photographs. Limited display space for the finished model meant that some adjustments had to be made to the design and the jury box would probably only seat 10 men 'honest and true' unless they were particularly slim!

The windows were made specially for the replica and all the panelling is carefully built up from numerous pieces, stained, aged and polished.  There are working doors to the jury box, witness stand and dock, and 'trompe d'oeil' stairs down from the dock to the cells.
